Saturday, October 20, 2007 9:30 am - 10:30 am
Early Literacy Skills Builder is a unique emerging-literacy intervention program for elementary students with significant disabilities (including cognitive and developmental disabilities, autism, and students who are nonverbal and/or using augmentative and alternative communication). This presentation will describe the research upon which the program was designed, the curriculum components, and the scope and sequence of the program. The program supports students who are non-speaking and require augmentative and alternative communication strategies. Specific adaptations will be demonstrated and ways in which educators can collaborate to provide for the language and literacy needs of this population will be discussed.
